ABEOKUTA – A call has gone to the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun to safe the souls of the people of Ogun West, particularly, those living at the border line over the incessant killings of the residents of the area by the Nigerian Custorms.
According to a release e-signed and made available to StarTrend Int’l & online – www.startrendinternational.com by Asiwaju Abdulgafar Ajibowu, the Convener of Ogun-West Rescue Team, the call was informed by the recent killing of an innocent resident of Oja-Odan, in Yewa North local government of Ogun State by trigger-happy men of the Customs.
He said, “In a bid to arrest smugglers, these trigger-happy men of the Customs started to shoot sporadically without caution or taking to consideration of the safety of law-abiding citizens that were carrying out their legal activities in the community, hence the stray bullet that fell an innocent man at Oja-Odan.
“Ogun West Rescue Team, however expressed our displeasure and discomfort over the incessant killing of the innocent man by the team of Nigerian Customs in Oja-Odan, Yewa North, local government area of Ogun state.
“Against this backdrop, we want to use this medium to call on our indefatigable Governor Abiodun to call to order men of the Customs in their continued killings of our people in the name of pursuing smugglers.
“The ugly and unscrupulous news like this coming from the towns and villages across Ogun West district has been grimmer than usual, including this recent killing of an innocent man. The rate at which the people of Ogun west district have been subjected to series of mayhem, inhuman treatment and heartrending attacks is quit alarming.”
Ajibowu, the convener of the group stated further, “Another deeply and desperate disturbing aspect of the killings is the perceived bias of government from the federal and state levels for not taking serious actions in ending this ugly and deadly issues.
“The daily occurrences of these condemned acts of innocent killings have increased fears as well as creating more threats to the security outfit of the land.
“It’s obvious we are helpless and hopeless as government is yet to act accordingly to our complains and lingering laments over the years.
“The dynamic nature of the current security challenges within Ogun West requires a strategic measures in tackling them.
“There would only be a progress and positive changes if the rescue vehicle in which our hopes and aspirations lies could deliver successfully to its destination.”
The group was of the opinion that, “Successful delivery of security of life and property could only be achieved through our collective collaborations and cooperation’s in making the proposed summit an historic and holistic one.”
Recall, Ogun West Rescue Team holds its summit on Thursday, October 3, 2020 at Ilaro, headquarters of Ogun West.
According to the organisers of the programme, interest of Yewa/Awori would be fully galvanized and highlighted while drawing a roadmap on how best those interests could be articulated.
