Ogun Trains Newly Recruited Fire Officers (+photos)

IKENNE-REMO, OGUN STATE, NIGERIA – The Ogun State government, through the Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, has kicked off a six-month training programme for newly recruited Fire Officers for effective service delivery.

Speaking during the ceremony at the H.I.D Awolowo Model Secondary School Ikenne, Commissioner for Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Hon. Olufunmilayo Efuwape, said the exercise marked the beginning of intensive training, aimed at equipping the recruits with necessary skills to effectively discharge their duties, imploring them to make the most of the training.

“This training is a crucial step in your career as a Fire Officers and I urge you to take it seriously. The skills and knowledge you acquire here will enable you to perform your duties efficiently and effectively,” she said.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Lateef Benson, according to the Press Officer, Ministry of Special Duties & Intergovernmental Affairs, Mr. Segun Owotomo, appreciated the present administration under the leadership of Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun for the intervention and upliftment of the Fire Services Department, urging the newly recruited officers to be diligent and proactive in the discharge of their duties.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Establishment and Training, Mrs. Lydia Fajounbo, represented by a Director in the Bureau, Mr. Olusegun Akinfaye, admonished the firemen to acquaint themselves with the Public Service Regulations which would serve as a guide for them in the Public Service.

Earlier, the Director, Ogun State Fire and Safety Service Stations, Engr. Fatai Adefala, who explained that the programme would cover various aspects of fire safety and management, including firefighting techniques, emergency response and fire prevention strategies, charged the participants to see the training as an avenue to develop themselves, assuring government of the Officers’ full support in securing the lives and property of the people of the state.

“This training is an opportunity to learn and grow and I implore you to take it seriously. You are the future of the fire service and we rely on you to protect our communities”, he said.

Expressing gratitude to government on behalf of others, one of the newly recruited Officers, Mr. Olusegun Sokunbi, pledged to be dedicated to duty, noting that the fire service would be strengthened through the training programme, pledging the safety and security of residents.

Other dignitaries at the programme include, Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties, Hon. Adewale Aka, top government officials, and stakeholders in the security sector.
