ABEOKUTA, OGUN STATE, NIGERIA – The Ogun State Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology has officially become an authorized Certiport Certificate Centre, enabling workforce testing and certification in digital literacy.
The Commissioner for Education, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, disclosed this development in Abeokuta during the presentation of Microsoft Certificate Education to Master Trainers in Digital Literacy.
The training, organized by the Ministry, equipped trainers with advanced skills in digital literacy and certification processes.
Prof. Arigbabu highlighted that this achievement positions Ogun State as a pioneer in digital certification and sets it apart as the first state to function as a general awarding body for such initiatives.
The Commissioner, according to Mr. Ayoola Obadimu, Press Officer, MOES&T, noted that teaching had gone beyond mastery of subjects alone, emphasising on the usage and integration of technology into teaching and learning, for effectiveness.
He mentioned that 120 assessors have been trained already, 60 internal and 30 external verifiers were to be trained in making teachers technologically and digitally capable, as well as achieving efficiency of the digital acceptance among the teaching force. He said, “a time will come when anyone who cannot use technology will be classified as illiterate”.
Earlier in her address, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Oluwatosin Oloko, said the event was organised in conjunction with Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP), in addition to many steps taken by government to ensure the Ministry of Education becomes an awarding institution.
In her submission, the Certiport Nigeria Representative, Mrs. Edna Augusto posited that with her experience as Certiport Official since 2009, she has not seen any State accepting International Certification like Ogun State, saying, with the certificate, the recipients can work anywhere in the world.
Two of the participants, Mr. Samuel Kinosi and Mrs. Adepeju Adesina expressed gratitude to the government for the opportunity to participate and acquire such an important certificate, that would enable them to work anywhere in the world.
