Ogun Harps On Need For Artisans’ Fair

ABEOKUTA: Ogun State Government says there is need for Artisans to organise themselves into groups that would encourage exhibition of their handcrafts, in order to strengthen their business activities, and support the State in maximising its potential for economic growth.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Technical Education, Prof. Joseph Odemuyiwa made this remark during a courtesy visit to his office by Ifo Technicians Association Incorporated, saying ‘Artisans’ fair’ would show the uniqueness and quality artisanal products that abound to the world.

Prof. Odemuyiwa, through his Media Aide, Mrs. Busayo Malaolu noted that craftworks, which maybe functional or decorative such as; furniture, car spraying, ceramic, jewelry, leather, household items and tools, could be exhibited, adding that the present administration was committed to improving craftsmanship through training to enable them use modern technology.

In her remark, the Director, Technical and Vocational Training, Mrs. Oluwatosin Oloko, admonished the Artisans to work together towards achieving set goals.

Responding, the Association’s President, Mr. Samuel Oyewole, appealed to the State Government to assist its members through formal education on technical and vocational training, promising that such effort would not be in vain.
