ABEOKUTA – Salary earners from the Ogun State government have cried out against the continued nonpayment of monies deducted for cooperative savings of the workers to the appropriate cooperative societies in the establishment.
According to an investigation conducted by StarTrend Int’l magazine & www.startrendinternational.com it was discovered that the current administration of Prince Dapo Abiodun have since 10 months refused to remit the monies deducted by his government from the salaries of employees of the state government to the relevant cooperative societies.
Many of the workers who wished to remain anonymous told StarTrend Int’l magazine & www.startrendinternational.com that the Governor who at the inception of his administration assured workers of Ogun state that he would not touch any personal emolument of the workers as done by the immediate past administration is currently being regarded as the one who can not keep his promises.
StarTrend Int’l magazine & www.startrendinternational.com also scooped that the present administration is still owing workers, most especially, primary and secondary school teachers of 4-6years leave bonus, a situation that is giving workers of the state concern amidst fears that the situation may drag for many years.
Others interviewed however attributed the idea of nonpayment of workers emolument to the careers officers of the state government who in a bid to be in the good book of the Governor introduced anti-workers’ po!icies to every successive governments in the state.
They advised Governor Dapo Abiodun not to follow the footsteps of his predecessor who owed the state workers series of emoluments for many years, before his last minute effort to clear the backlog in the bid to get a soft landing.
It will be recalled that during the reign of the former Government Ibikunle Amosun in Ogun state, series of workers emoluments were owed for many years, but some of it were settled when Governor Abiodun took over the mantle of governance in the state.
Observers of the scene are of the opinion that government should desist from tampering with the personal contributions of its workers, saying, the contributions as part of the workers salary are meant to augment their expenses on different domestic responsibilities.
They however urged Governor Abiodun who they described as a listening leader to quickly remit the outstanding monies deducted by his government on behalf of the workers for their cooperative savings to the appropriate cooperative societies.
“Governor Abiodun should also pay all outstanding leave bonuses owed the Ogun State workforce, including the ones he inherited from his predecessor,” observers of the scene posited.
