ABEOKUTA – Ogun State government on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 handed over the two abducted students of Olabisi Onabnjo University (OOU) to there parents after regaining freedom.
The victims, Miss Precious Adeyemo and Miss Abiola Oyefule were kidnaped on Sunday, March 14, 2021 by unknown gunmen while returning to their halls of residence located at Olowu area in Ayetoro campus of the institution in Yewa North Local Government Area of the state.
The duo, who are of the Departments of Forestry and Wildlife Management, and Department of Agricultural Economics, respectively were released on Tuesday night, 48 hours later.
While addressing Journalists in Abeokuta, the state capital on Wednesday, March 17, 2021, the Commissioner for Information, Wale Odusile claimed that no ransome was paid to secure the release of the students.
Odusile hinted that Governor Abiodun had directed that security be beefed up at all educational institutions in the state so as to forestall similar occurrence.
His words: “The Governor has directed that security be beefed up at all our educational institutions so as to forestall this kind of thing.
“We do not pray for this to happen again, he has also enjoined the authorities in our schools to also be alert and be up and doing, but our security starts with the person, he has also enjoined students and every individuals to take security issues seriously.”
Odusile said government would do everything to ensure the security of lives and properties in the State.
The Ogun Hon. Commissioner For Health, Dr Tomi Coker however handed over Precious Adeyemo and Abiola Oyefule of Olabisi Obasanjo University, OOU who regained their freedom from the hands of kidnappers to their Parents.
