Ogun Govt. Enhances Capacity Of Zonal Secretaries

ABEOKUTA – The Ogun State Government has prioritised human capacity development in all education agencies, towards enhancing the work performance of academic heads, teaching, and non-teaching staff of schools.

The Chairman Teaching Service Commission, Evang. Olalekan Ifede disclosed this while delivering a welcome address in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta during a seminar recently organised for Zonal Secretaries on “Developing Leadership Competence and “Conflict Management and Resolution Techniques”.

Ifede, in a statement signed by the Commission”s Press Officer, Mrs. Gbonjubola Alao, stated that it was imperative for Zonal Secretaries to integrate themselves with the tenets of the training, to enable them to build the capacity to work as good leaders, adding that they were expected to be seen as worthy of emulation by other staff under their supervision.

The Chairman said the seminar would serve as veritable means of enlightening officers on models needed to be deployed, to boost their mental horizons and career.

He asserted that their ability to entrench discipline and diplomacy as superior officers would herald a conducive atmosphere for them to thrive.

Ifede commended the present administration for the teachers’ welfare and other necessary support to the education agencies, as well as putting in place plans involving academic and administrative reformations.

Speaking earlier, the Permanent Secretary in the Commission, Dr. Abdulwaheed Olanloye advised the Zonal Secretaries to consistently enrich themselves in knowledge by engaging more with quality books they would benefit from.

Also speaking at the event, Commissioner III in the agency, who doubles as the Chairman of the training session, Hon. Olanrewaju Majekodunmi affirmed that the lecture was premised on intimating participants on morals and professional ethics, to enable them to succeed as Zonal Secretaries, noting that their dispositions to official duties require proactiveness and higher capacity to execute their jobs effectively.

In his remarks, the resource person, Mr. Jolaoso Oyeneye, said it is important for the Zonal Secretaries to imbibe an attitude of settling conflicts and entrenching managerial strategies with school stakeholders, emphasising the need for them to be wise and humble at work, to foster achievable goals with the school Principals, Vice Principals, Administrative Heads and teachers in their zones.

In their responses, the Zonal Secretaries of Odogbolu and Ijebu-Ode, Messers Ojo Babatope and Olaleye Olawale expressed satisfaction in the training and assured to utilise its gains meaningfully.
