OGHA Probes Unauthorized Sales Of Housing Corporation Lands, Families Directed To Submit Land Ownership Documents

… Says, Absentees From Ijebu-Ode Land Probe May Face Sanctions, Assures Fair Hearing For All Parties

ABEOKUTA, OGUN STATE, NIGERIA – The Ogun State House of Assembly, through its Committee on Lands and Housing, has summoned key individuals over a disputed land case involving properties reportedly belonging to the State Housing Corporation.

The Assembly directed the families of Emmanuel Osho, Owodunni Sodipo, Abiodun Soneye, Adeyiga Jeje Lambo, and Hammed Sodipo to reappear before the Committee on Thursday, July 3, 2025.

They are to present all relevant documents concerning a land dispute over property located at Ibido Community Area, Sagamu Estate in Sagamu Local Government Area.

Committee Chairman, Hon. Damilola Soneye, emphasized the need for transparency and called on the families to provide the perimeter survey of the disputed land, Certificates of Occupancy (C of O), and all building permits issued to individuals currently occupying the land.

The Committee also instructed the Management of the Ogun State Housing Corporation to submit detailed records of compensation reportedly paid at the time of land acquisition in 1977.

In a further step toward verifying ownership and boundaries, the Office of the Surveyor General under the State Bureau of Lands and Survey was mandated to present relevant documentation and survey data at the upcoming session scheduled for July 3, 2025.

Hon. Soneye assured all parties involved that the Assembly remained committed to a just and peaceful resolution.

He stated that if investigations reveal the Housing Corporation has no legitimate claim to the land, it will be directed to vacate it. The same will apply to any families found to be wrongfully claiming ownership of the estate land.

Vice Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Samisudeen Lawal, appealed to the affected families to remain calm, avoid confrontation, and cooperate fully to facilitate a fair investigation and settlement of the issue.

Meanwhile, the Committee expressed disappointment over the failure of nine individuals earlier invited over alleged land grabbing and encroachment at the Housing Corporation’s Itanrin Estate in Ijebu-Ode to honour their summons.

The Committee Chairman warned that the Assembly may invoke its constitutional powers to enforce compliance if the individuals continue to ignore its directive. He reaffirmed the Committee’s commitment to enforcing the rule of law and protecting government property across Ogun State.
