ILARO-YEWA, OGUN STATE, NIGERIA – The Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba (Dr.) Kehinde Gbadewole Olugbenle MFR, Asade Agunloye IV, has emphasized that marriage is an institution that requires not only love, but also a deep understanding between partners.
Oba Olugbenle made this statement on Sunday, December 29, 2024, during the traditional wedding ceremony of Dr. (Otunba) S.A.J. Ibikunle’s daughter, Miss Olukemi Adetola, to Anthony Olabode Odunlami.
The event was held at the monarch’s private palace in Ilaro-Yewa, Ogun State, where he served as host.
Oba Olugbenle, who is also the Chairman of the Ogun State Council of Obas, advised the couple to recognize their unique backgrounds, saying, “Couples must recognize that they are coming from different backgrounds and learn to live as one entity.”
The monarch shared wise counsel for the couple, emphasizing the importance of tolerance, understanding, and mutual respect in marriage.
“Marriage is an institution that requires not only love, but also total understanding of one another,” he stated. “Couples must recognize that they are coming from different backgrounds and learn to live as one entity.”
He stressed the value of perseverance and adherence to divine principles, urging couples to avoid actions that could lead to separation
“Unfortunately, many homes have been destroyed due to a lack of patience and disregard for God’s teachings about marriage,” he lamented. “This has had adverse effects not only on their children, but also on society as a whole.”
Oba Olugbenle remarked, warning against actions that could lead to separation. He referenced the timeless message of unity in Onyeka Onwenu’s song, One Love Keep Us Together, as a guiding principle for the couple.
Dr. (Otunba) S.A.J. Ibikunle expressed profound gratitude to God for the event’s success, appreciating Oba Olugbenle for graciously hosting despite his busy schedule.
He also acknowledged the contributions of both families and guests, whose presence made the occasion memorable.
