Oba Olugbenle, Community Mourn Chief Idowu Adejumo At RCCG Ogun 7 Commendation Service (+photos)

ILARO-YEWA, OGUN STATE, NIGERIA – The Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Dr. Kehinde Gbadewole Olugbenle, MFR, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Engr. (Chief) Idowu Adewale Adejumo, the late Bobajiro of Ilaro-Yewa, Ogun State.

Representing the monarch at the Commendation Service, Elhadj (Otunba) Abu-Satar Idowu Hamed, the Otun Baaroyin of Ilaro-Yewa, described the deceased as one of the foundational pillars of Ilaro and Yewaland.

Speaking on behalf of Oba Olugbenle, he lamented the shocking loss and noted that both the king and his council of chiefs held Chief Adejumo in the highest esteem.

Chief Idowu Adewale Adejumo, the Bobajiro of Ilaro-Yewa, died on Monday, July 13, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of service, philanthropy, and deep community involvement.

The solemn Commendation Service, organized by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Ogun Province 7, was held at the late Chief Adejumo’s residence in GRA, Ilaro-Yewa. It was attended by dignitaries from near and far, including members of the Recreation Club Ilaro, friends, and family.

Otunba Hamed recalled that Oba Olugbenle viewed the late Chief as one of the Chiefs who significantly contributed to the socio-economic advancement of Ilaro and Yewaland.

He prayed for God’s comfort and strength for the bereaved family, chiefs, and relations left behind.

In his tribute, Mr. Waris Adebiyi, representing the Adejumo-Adebiyi family of Oju-Oja, Ilaro, expressed the family’s devastation at the loss of a key figure in their dynasty.

He remembered Chief Adejumo as a generous and caring personality whose absence would be deeply felt. He prayed for divine peace for his soul and for other departed members of the family.

Chief Adejumo’s brother-in-law, Mr. Adekoya, shared heartfelt memories of the deceased, calling him a God-sent benefactor to himself and his family.

He promised never to forget the kindness and support he received, offering prayers for the eternal rest of Chief Adejumo and divine protection for his family.

Prince (Alhaji) Lamidi Elegbede, Secretary of the Oronna Ilaro Festival Planning Committee, described Chief Adejumo as a first-class socialite and a community leader who loved his people.

Fondly called, “Emperor”, Elegbede noted that the late Chief was a major sponsor of the cultural segment of the annual Oronna Festival. He prayed for God’s comfort over the family and the peaceful repose of the deceased.

In his own tribute, Engr. Adejumo (a friend to the deceased) described the late Chief as a complete gentleman and quiet philanthropist.

Since their first meeting years ago, he said, the relationship had always been rewarding. He asked God for forgiveness for any sins the Chief may have committed and for comfort to all who mourn him.

Mrs. Bose Ogunyemi, a senior member of RCCG Ogun Province 7, Ilaro-Yewa, mourned the passing of a devout Christian and problem-solver.

She praised Chief Adejumo’s kindness and willingness to help others, praying for God to grant him eternal rest and protect his family and friends.

Mr. Falilu Musa, in an emotional tribute, described Chief Adejumo as a loving and responsible “Baba,” who was a friend to his late father.

He shared his gratitude for the positive impact the Chief had in his life and prayed for strength for the grieving family.

Mr. Kayode Salako, President of the Recreation Club, Ilaro, led members of the club to the service and lamented the great loss of their Chairman, Elder Council – Chief Adejumo.

He revealed that the Chief played a pivotal role in supporting the club’s development, including the current ultra-modern sports facility courtesy of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi).

Salako noted that despite short notice, many members would have loved to attend in larger numbers to honour their revered leader.

Pastor (Elder) Olaogun, Chairman of the Elder Council of RCCG Ogun Province 7, offered a deeply emotional tribute.

He described Chief Adejumo as a benefactor, devoted Christian, and Grand Patron of the Elders, adding, the church acknowledged the pain of his loss but encouraged the family to rejoice in the assurance of his eternal rest with God.

He emphasized that Chief Adejumo lived a life filled with love, compassion, and spiritual commitment.

He testified to Chief Adejumo’s godly character and declared that he had fought a good fight and had gone home in peace. “Good night, Baba,” they concluded, “May your sleep continue to be peaceful.”

Delivering the sermon titled “Eternal Passport”, Pastor Dr. Jiboku of RCCG Ogun Province 7, described Chief Adejumo as a devout Christian who invested significantly in the propagation of the Gospel.

Quoting from the scriptures, the RCCG Elder Council consoled the family with the words from John 3:3–8, stressing the importance of being born again.

He highlighted that entrance into God’s kingdom requires spiritual rebirth, urging all attendees to reflect on their spiritual lives.

He praised Chief Adejumo’s life of integrity, service, and love.

The service ended with prayers for strength and divine comfort for Chief Adejumo’s family, friends, and loved ones. The gathering honoured a life lived in service to God, community, and humanity.
