IBADAN – The National Youth Services Corps (NYSC), Oyo State has sworn-in 699 prospective corps members, comprising of 411 females and 288 males who registered for the 2020 Batch “B” (Stream 1A) Orientation Course.
Oyo NYSC also urged the new corp members on selfless service to be active in all programmes of the orientation and be good ambassadors of the higher institutions of learning they represent.
According to NYSC coordinator in Oyo State, Mrs. Grace Ogbuogede, she pointed out that the NYSC scheme in the last seven years remained an endearing legacy for the youth which include ideal of selfless service, patriotism, harmony, equity and justice.
She also explained that the pivot place in NYSC scheme is the meaningful National integration and sustainable development towards nation building, adding that this is a noble call for the new corp members to serve their fatherland.
The NYSC boss however expressed her appreciation to the Oyo State government for its support for the scheme in the state, saying that the state government recently granted approval for the construction of more hostel facilities in the orientation camp.
Ogbuogede therefore said that to achieve more desirable result, stakeholders must continue to partner with the NYSC in its quest to pursue the needed policies aimed at making youth the central national orientation programme.
In his remarks, Gov. Seyi Makinde who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sport, Asiwaju Seun Fakorede, called on the corp members to strive to contribute their own quota towards development and good governance in Nigeria, adding that they should see their deployment to the state as a divine arrangement.
“Oyo State is relatively peaceful compared to many state in Nigeria, the governor has transformed the state since his assumption as the governor of the state.
“I charged you all to avail yourself of the opportunity provided in the Orientation Course content, learn to integrate with people of diverse culture and create bond of unity.
“Embrace the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Programme which is designed to empower corps members with skill that can turn you to wealth creator and employers of labour during your service year.”
The governor however said that, “the state government will create a conducive and secure environment for all the new corps members deployed to the state, saying that as a responsive government, they are set to invest massively on the youths to ensure developmental and economic growth of the state and Nigeria at large”
