IBADAN – A call has gone to the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde to investigate why the Olubadan of Ibadanlan, Oba Saliu Adetunji and the Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Abd-Ganiy Adekunle Salau were prevented by security operatives from entering into the Adamasingba Stadium in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
It would be recalled that the two prominent monarchs in Nigeria were denied entrance to the newly renovated Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 during the inauguration of the newly remodelled stadium.
Some Nigerians who can’t hide their disgust on the attitude of security agents were of the opinion that such a disgraceful action shouldn’t have been melted to the traditional rulers, most especially on their soil, saying the action of the security agents wasn’t directed to the monarchs, but an insult to the people of the communities they represented.
They however called on Governor Seyi Makinde to as a matter of urgency institute a panel of enquiry to investigate the embarrassing actions of the security agents and issue an unreserved apology to the kabiyesis.
Recall, drama of the absurd played out on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 when security operatives prevented the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji and the Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Abd-Ganiy Adekunle Salau from entering into the Adamasingba Stadium, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The two first class monarchs were barred from entering the newly remodelled stadium being inaugurated on the said day, a situation that embarrassed the two kabiyesis and observers of the scene.
Greatly feeling embarrassed by the conduct of the security operatives, the traditional rulers were said to have left the venue in anger.
It was scooped that the Olubadan and Aseyin, who were invited as very important personalities to grace the occasion, arrived in convoys with their aides.
After waiting for over 30 minutes at the entrance of the stadium, the security operatives told them that they would be allowed to enter with just one aide each.
It was also learnt that the Assistant Director of Media and Communications to the Olubadan, Mr. Yanju Adegboyega, however described the situation as very embarrassing, saying it was annoying that some “overzealous security operatives” barred the Olubadan and the Aseyin from gaining entrance into the stadium.
“There was nothing more that happened there. We were prevented from entering the stadium. The DSS and bouncers did not allow us to enter.
“They said that they could only allow the monarchs to enter if they could go in with just one aide. The Olubadan had no option than to leave. The Aseyin also left,” Adegboyega said.
Observers of the scene however described the situation as a great insult to the people of Ibadan and Iseyin, respectively over how their revered monarchs were disgraced in their land.
