Nigerian Customs Service Takes Disciplinary Action Against Officer For Alleged N500,000 Extortion

ABUJA, NIGERIA – The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) announced on Monday, February 26, 2024, that it is taking disciplinary measures against one of its personnel over allegations of extorting N500,000 from a car buyer named Muhammad Ahmad along the Mokwa-Jebba Road in Niger State on Thursday, February 22, 2024.

In a statement released on its verified Facebook Page, the Customs revealed that the Comptroller of the Federal Operations Unit Zone ‘B’ Kaduna, Dalha Chedi, handed over the accused officer, Ibrahim Suleiman, to the Assistant Provost Marshal (APM) of the Customs Police Unit in Kaduna.

Mr. Chedi stated that he had instructed the Customs Police Unit, responsible for enforcing discipline within the service, to conduct further interrogation into the matter. He also mentioned that the complainant has been summoned to assist in the investigation process.

“This unprofessional and unethical behavior will not be tolerated. A comprehensive investigation has been initiated with this handover to uncover the truth surrounding the allegations. The findings will be made public to serve as a deterrent to others.

“We are deeply committed to addressing this matter with utmost seriousness, decisiveness, and transparency”, Mr. Chedi posited.
