LAGOS – There is urgent need need for the Federal government of Nigeria to declare state of emergency on some criminally – deplorable and accident – prone roads in South-West and Nigeria at large.

Top on the list of the roads according to an investigation by StarTrend Int’l magazine are Ibadan – Ilesha express road, Abeokuta – Sango Ota Toll Gate, Sagamu Interchange-Papalanto-Ilaro-Owode Yewa-Ado Odo-Ikonga and Abeokuta-Apata-Ibadan road among others.

Many Nigerians who had to go through the roads frequently lamented that each trip represented a suicide attempt for them as the roads, after many years of neglect have become death traps and expressway to heaven.

Those who spoke with StarTrend claimed that the bad roads also serve as convenient locations for suspected criminals to perpetrate their heinous as motorists were usually constrained to navigate slowly through the roads.

The motorists and commuters however challenged the Minister of Works and Transport, Mr. Babatunde Fashola to take a trip round the roads for a first hand experience of the terrible condition of the these roads.

A motorist rhetorically asked, “can the Minister in charge of these roads as part of his oversight functions take a tour of these mentioned roads to see for himself the level of deplorable condition of these roads, before the planned re initiation of toll-gating on the Federal roads?

StarTrend Int’l magazing was of the opinion that a responsive government would as a matter of urgency, address the issue sooner, than later as the medium continues to call the attention of the relevant authorities to their responsibilities.
