LISA KINGDOM – Governments at all levels have been charged to engage traditional institutions in its security architecture aimed at solving the problem of insecurity in the country.
Olu of Lisa Kingdom, Oba Najeemdeen Odugbemi gave the charge last weekend in his palace at Lisa town in Ifo local government area of Ogun state while addressing newsmen to herald this year’s Igunnuko festival.
Oba Odugbemi said that traditional institutions are very close to the people in their various communities, stressing that they will be able to identify and nip in the bud any unwholesome acts from the people immediately such acts are uncovered.
He pointed out that by engaging the traditional institutions in the security system, the spate of insecurity will be reduced drastically.
At this year’s Igunnuko festival at Lisa town, Oba Odugbemi hinted that the festival was meant to connect indigenes of Lisa worldwide for the purpose of developing Lisa town.
He noted that the Igunnuko festival is a belief system in the community aimed at promoting and preserving the culture of the founding fathers of the community.
While fielding questions from newsmen, Oba Odugbemi advised parents and guardians to always be watchful and guide their children against indecent dressing and as well discourage them from joining bad gangs by giving them good and proper upbringing from home, because according to him, charity begins at home.
Oba Odugbemi, the Royal Grand Patron of Ogun NUJ who appreciated the present administration for its giant stride in infrastructural development, appealed to the state government for the construction of Lisa road from Ijoko axis which connects the road to other local governments in the state.
He said that the government cannot alone provide all the basic needs of the people, and urged Nigerians, especially the traditional institutions in their various communities to complement the efforts of the government for the purpose of development.
Oba Odugbemi since he became the Baale of Lisa in 2006 uptill his upgrading to Obaship in 2011 has implemented many projects in the community which include health centre, market, police station (construction ongoing), offices for the paramilitary agencies, such as So-Safe Corps, schools and many more for the benefits of the people of Lisa town.
The monarch appealed to both the federal and state government to as a matter of urgency come to the aid of the memorial arcade in Lisa which had been neglected by successive governments since the ill-fated plane crash in Lisa in 2005.
It would be recalled that on October 22, 2005, Nigeria and Nigerians were thrown into darkness and a mournful mood on the announcement of a plane crash at Lisa area of Ogun State which claimed the lives of notable Nigerians.
The federal government constructed the memorial arcade with the inscriptions of names of the victims, apparently to honour the departed souls.
