Military Issues Stern Warning Ahead of #EndBadGovernance Protests, Vows To Maintain National Stability

ABUJA, FCT, NIGERIA – The Defence Headquarters has issued a stern warning ahead of the scheduled #EndBadGovernance protest from August 1 to 10, 2024, emphasizing zero tolerance for violence or anarchy while affirming citizens’ right to peaceful protest.

Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, delivered the statement during a press conference in Abuja, expressing concerns about potential exploitation of the protests for destructive ends, targeting innocent Nigerians and businesses.

“While citizens have the right to peaceful protest, they do not have the right to mobilize for anarchy and unleash terror,” Buba stated, drawing parallels with recent events in Kenya where protests turned violent.

“The Armed Forces will not stand by and allow anarchy to disrupt our nation,” he added firmly.

The warning coincided with growing dissatisfaction among Nigerians, as the #EndBadGovernance movement underscored critical issues like hunger and inflation, demanding governmental accountability and reforms amidst socio-economic challenges.

Recall, the military’s position echoes memories of the 2020 #EndSARS protests, marred by military intervention at the Lekki Tollgate in Lagos, which ignited national and international outcry.
