IBADAN, OYO STATE, NIGERIA – The final burial rites for the late Chief Yemi Ogunyemi, the Baale of Oluyole-Ibadan and revered media icon, will be held today, Saturday, July 19, 2025, at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Oluyole Estate, Ibadan, Oyo State.
A Thanksgiving Service will follow on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at the same church, bringing to a close the series of events honouring the life and legacy of Chief Ogunyemi.
The farewell ceremonies began on Thursday, July 17, 2025, with Cultural and Media Tributes at his palace in Oluyole Estate, while a Special Juma’ah Prayer was held in his honour at Oluyole Central Mosque, in Friday, July 18, 2025.
Chief Yemi Ogunyemi, who died on May 17, 2025, was not only a traditional leader, but also a pioneering figure in Nigerian broadcasting.
As a respected member of the Ibadan South West Traditional Council, Chief Yemi Ogunyemi was deeply involved in local governance and cultural preservation.
Chief Ogunyemi rose to prominence in the 1980s and 1990s as the charismatic host of the acclaimed NTA Ibadan programme – “Enbalaya”, earning widespread admiration and a special place in the hearts of viewers across Nigeria.
His impact extended far beyond the television screen. He was cherished for his humility, warmth, and unwavering generosity.
As a leader and mentor, Chief Yemi Ogunyemi left an indelible mark on generations in his community.
A true son of Ibadanland, Chief Ogunyemi was more than a media personality – he was a symbol of unity, compassion, and enduring cultural pride.
His sincerity and strength brought comfort to many, and his legacy will be remembered with deep affection.
As Chief Yemi Ogunyemi’s remains are laid to rest today, we pray that his gentle soul finds eternal peace. May the Almighty grant comfort and strength to his family, friends, and the entire Ibadan community as they mourn this profound and irreplaceable loss.
