Keyamo Alleges Private Jets Used For Drug Trafficking, Money Laundering, Launches Taskforce

ABUJA, FCT, NIGERIA – Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation, has raised concerns about the illicit use of aircraft in Nigeria for activities such as drug trafficking and money laundering.

Speaking on Thursday, June 27, 2024, during the inauguration of a Ministerial Taskforce Committee, Keyamo highlighted the detrimental impact of these illegal operations on the sector, citing substantial financial losses and heightened security risks.

While not specifying the airlines involved, Keyamo emphasized that some operators misuse licenses originally intended for non-commercial flights, contravening their agreed-upon terms.

He directed the newly formed eight-man committee, chaired by Aero Contractors’ CEO Ado Sanusi, to conduct a thorough inventory of all non-commercial flight operators, scrutinize professional licenses for validity, and recommend appropriate disciplinary actions for any airline found complicit.

The committee has been tasked with delivering its findings to the minister within three months, aiming to curb illegal activities and uphold regulatory integrity within Nigeria’s aviation industry.
