Just In: Gov Abiodun’s Aide, Azeez Adeyemi, Allegedly Assaults Ogun Journalist In Public Beating, As NUJ Bans Coverage Of NANS Activities

…Observers Call On Governor Abiodun To Address Situation Urgently

ABEOKUTA, OGUN STATE, NIGERIA – Comrade Azeez Adeyemi, the Senior Special Assistant on Student Affairs to Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has been accused of leading a violent assault against an Ogun-based journalist, Olajide Osoba, publisher of NewsAngleOnline.

The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday, May 1, 2025, shortly after the Governor’s address commemorating Workers’ Day at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta.

Osoba, along with other journalists, was present to cover the event when the assault allegedly took place.

Eyewitnesses claim that Adeyemi personally supervised the brutal attack, instructing his entourage – allegedly armed with dangerous weapons – to clear the area, allowing them to beat the journalist without interruption.

Further reports suggest that this is not the first time Adeyemi has been linked to acts of intimidation across the state capital.

Sources allege a pattern of harassment and molestation of innocent citizens under the guise of student activism.

Osoba, the victim, is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

According to close sources, Osoba lost a significant amount of blood and slipped into a coma late Thursday night after suffering repeated blows to the face and body.

In response, the Ogun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has condemned the attack, describing it as an assault on press freedom.

The Council has called for an immediate media blackout on all activities of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in the state, of which Adeyemi is a known figure.

The journalist has formally reported the incident at Ibara Police Station, urging swift intervention from the Divisional Police Officer to prevent future attacks on media professionals.

Observers have called on Governor Dapo Abiodun to address the situation urgently, warning that failure to rein in Adeyemi could strain government-media relations and tarnish the image of the administration.
