ABUJA, FCT, NIGERIA – Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has categorically stated that there is no possibility of reconciling with his successor, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Recall, the conflict between Wike and Fubara began shortly after the latter assumed office.
The disagreement stemmed from a struggle over control of the party structure and resources within Rivers State.
Despite attempts to bridge the gap, Wike has made it clear that he will not reconsider his stance regarding his estranged political protégé, saying that the differences between them are irreparable.
Speaking during a media session marking his first year in office as FCT Minister, Wike reiterated his commitment to delivering on President Bola Tinubu’s mandate.
He underscored that his current priorities lie in fulfilling his duties in the Federal Capital Territory, not in supporting Fubara.
The ongoing conflict between Wike and Fubara has had a ripple effect, leading to a split within the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Despite interventions from President Tinubu and other political stakeholders, the crisis shows no signs of abating. Wike reflected on his efforts to help Fubara secure the governorship, expressing no regrets. However, he firmly stated that Fubara’s refusal to align with his political “family” leaves no room for reconciliation.
Drawing a parallel to the political fallout between Tinubu and Aregbesola, Wike asserted his commitment to integrity in politics, affirming his focus on the responsibilities given to him by President Tinubu, without concern for the ongoing rift with Fubara.
