…Prioritize Loving Their Families With Kindness
BY ABUSATAR HAMED
ILARO-YEWA – The Chief Imam of Ilaro Central Mosque, Imam Tajudeen Mustapha-Adewunmi, has urged Muslim faithful to follow the example of Prophet Ibrahim in their family life.
The Islamic scholar stated this while delivering a sermon during the Eid-el-Kabir prayer on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at the Ilaro Central Mosque, Ilaro-Yewa, Ogun State.
He also emphasized the importance of total submission to the will of Allah, as demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim when he was reminded of his promise to sacrifice his son.
Imam Adewunmi highlighted that Prophet Ibrahim’s complete submission to Allah’s will, along with his love and obedience towards his family, led to their cooperation and obedience towards him.
“Although Prophet Ibrahim felt uneasy about Allah testing his patience, he was grateful for the cooperation of his wife, whom he had shown love, and the obedience of his son, whom he had nurtured and cared for”, Imam Adewunmi noted.
The religious leader emphasized that one of the lessons of Eid-el-Kabir is to love and care for one’s spouse and to be responsible parents by taking good care of their children.
He also urged children to be obedient not only to their parents but also to their elders, as this would contribute to their success in life.
Imam Adewunmi further stated that the celebration emphasizes the importance of parental care and children’s obedience.
He expressed concern about some Muslims in the South West region of Nigeria who believe that simply observing Sallah celebrations or performing the pilgrimage to Mecca and Medina is enough to enter paradise (Aljanat).
Imam Adewunmi criticized those who focus solely on acquiring the titles of “Alhaji” and “Alhaja” through performing Hajj, while neglecting to show love, kindness, and care towards their families.
He however advised Muslim faithful to prioritize loving their families and taking care of their children with kindness, emphasizing the importance of providing them with education, both in secular subjects and the Quran, as these are essential duties in Islam.
The religious leader guided the assembly in an extensive prayer session for Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Dapo Abiodun, Oba (Dr.) Kehinde Olugbenle, both newly elected and current political officials, the entire community of Ilaro-Yewa, and the nation as a whole.
Alhaji Gaffar Idowu, Otun Musulumi of Ilaro Central Mosque however translated the sermon into the Hausa language to ensure that the Hausa/Fulani Muslims who took part in the prayer could understand and benefit from it.
Following the prayer, Alhaji Haruna Musa, the Deputy Imam of Ilaro Central Mosque, performed the ritualistic slaughter of two Rams.
These Rams were generously donated to the mosque by Governor Abiodun of Ogun State and Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, respectively, as a symbolic gesture in celebration of Eid-el-Kabir.
