UNITED STATES OF AMERICA – Kanye West, US rapper and record producer, has said he is richer than Donald Trump, the US president.
His claim was on the back of rumours in some quarters that he is being paid by Republicans to be a “distraction” to Trump’s re-election bid.
Back in April, the rapper had endorsed Trump for re-election, crediting the politician for a booming real estate market.
But he would later withdraw his support for him, faulting his government’s response to the coronavirus pandemic.
He had consequently announced interest in running for the presidential election billed for November 3, picking Michelle Tidball, a Wyoming-based “biblical life coach”, as his running mate.
Critics, however, doubted the ‘Ye’ crooner’s genuineness in running for the topmost political office in the US, with some alleging that he was simply being paid to run a spoiler campaign against Trump.
But speaking on ‘Cannon Class’, a podcast by Nick Canon, an American rapper cum comedian, West dismissed the claims.
The rapper wondered why people would come up with such rumours, claiming that he is already richer than Trump.
“Nobody is paying me. I got more money than Trump,” he said.
When asked if he was really serious about his political ambition, he said: “I am not running for president, I’m working.”
According to Forbes, Trump’s net worth stood at $2.1 billion as of March, 2020.
The US magazine, however, only declared West a billionaire in April with a net worth of $1.3 billion.
