ILARO-YEWA – Chairman of the Oronna Ilaro Festival Central Planning Committee, Otunba (Pharm) Lekan Asuni FPSN; FNA Pharm, has said that the yearly Oronna Ilaro Festival have contributed immensely to the development of the town through projects and programmes that have changed the face of the town with hopes for better and improved living conditions.
Asuni stated this on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at a press briefing held in Ilaro-Yewa that heraded the 30th edition of the Oronna Ilaro Festival.
The Otun Baasegun of Ilaro-Yewa noted that the festival is also a rallying point for all sons and daughters of Ilaro-Yewa to foster unity and facilitate developmental projects to the community.
His words, “I am delighted to welcome you to this press briefing, signalling the commencement of the Oronna Ilaro Festival 2023, tagged: “Festival of Great Expectation.”
“It should be noted that this year celebration marks the 30th anniversary of the festival.
“We therefore give praises and give adoration to the Almighty God who has seen us this far.
“As we are all aware, the festival holds annually. It is a festival that evolved over time as the platform to promote our culture and traditions, including the tourism potentials and economic development of the ancient city of Ilaro-Yewa.”
Otunba Asuni also pay tribute to His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr) Kehinde Gbadewole Adeboye Olugbenle, MSc MFR, Asade Agunloye IV, the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, the Olu-in-Council and the entire good people of Ilaro-Yewa, and of course our esteemed guests for their continued and unflinching supports towards the success of the yearly festival.
“I’m not forgetting the previous organising Chairmen of the festival who had served selflessly and meritoriously to promote the primary objective of the festival.
“We acknowledge and appreciate all your contributions, which had been the springboard for the present day achievements.
“This year’s festival which is scheduled to take place between November 11 and 19, 2023 with the theme: ‘Festival of Great Expectation’, which has been carefully chosen to reflect the recent successful elections and appointments of our kinsmen into various offices.
“Our expectation is that they will work in unity to bring about the development and fulfilment of the agelong aspirations of our community to fruition.
“Our hopes and expectations are also built around all of you representing us at different levels of government for a better Ilaro, Yewaland and Ogun West Senatorial District as a whole”, Pharm. Asuni posited.
He however used opportunity of the press briefing to call on sons and daughters, and everyone “to participate fully in this year’s 30th edition of the festival.”
It would be noted that this year’s festival is a milestone cerebration and it promises to deliver the usual glamour and panache that it has been known for.
Some of the activities lined up for the one week celebration include Street Carnival and Roadshow, which commenced immediately after the press briefing; Youth Summit with a focus on building IT literacy which was held on Friday, November 10, 2023 and the colourful and glamorous Onigba Aje procession Carnival promises to be an exciting moment in the programme of the event.
Also, there will be sports and cultural displays to entertain guests with the rich culture of the ancient town.
There will also be a Medical outreach for the residents of the town; the cultural Efe Night and Poosu Night, featuring other local cuisine cooking competitions.
Sisi Ilaro Beauty Pageant holds on the night of Friday, November 17, 2023, and the Olori Omotola Olugbenle’s Children Party that will host the town’s future leaders and the generations of tomorrow.
Paying of homage to the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland comes up at the most colourful Grand Finale on Saturday, November 18, 2023 where the Executive Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun MFR will be the Special Guest of Honour along with other esteemed guests.
The one week-long festival shall be rounded off with a Thanksgiving Service at the Cathedral Church of Christ, Ilaro-Yewa on Sunday, November 19, 2023.
