ABEOKUTA – The Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, has dismissed circulating reports on social media alleging that she was attacked by protesting students from Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY).
Contrary to the claims, Salako-Oyedele clarified that the incident was misrepresented. Earlier reports from her office suggested that her convoy had been targeted by the students, who were staging a protest march to the Governor’s Office in Oke Mosan.
She assured the public that no harm came to her or her convoy during the students’ demonstration.
However, in a statement credited to the Public Relations Officer of the Institution, ‘yemi Ajibola, the Deputy Governor made the assertion when the Management of the institution led by the Rector, Arc ‘Koye Jolaoso paid her a solidarity visit in her office when he said the students were on a guided-protest on the alledge new fee regime introduce by the school .
Speaking during the visit, the Deputy Governor said she was on her way to Alamala for Armed Forces Remembrance Day when the security details saw the crowd and told her driver to make a detour which the driver did without any ado.
She added that the convoy returned to her residence to allow the crowd to pass and later went to where she was headed on behalf of the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun.
“If I had been attacked, I would not have gone to attend the programme at Alamala but I went when I was told they have gone.
“I just want all of us to be careful of social media as it has caused many people calling me to ask after me on reading or hearing the news.”, Salako-Oyedele said.
She advised the students to always dialogue and be peaceful in handling issues.
Earlier, the Rector, Arc Jolaoso said the management came to apologise on behalf of the students and want her to forgive them as a mother.
“We came on behalf of the Governing Council, management staff and students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Abeokuta to apologise for what happened yesterday and the embarrassment it might have caused you”, MAPOLY Rector posited.
The delegation include the Deputy Rector, Dr (Mrs.) Yetunde Lanre-Iyanda; Registrar, Mrs. Olubunmi Elewodalu; Polytechnic Librarian, Alhaja Basirat Akintunde; Bursar, Mrs. Folasade Madariola FCA; the Chairmen and Secretary of the three Staff Unions on Campus; the PAR in the Registrar’s office and Mrs. Feyisola Ayeni.
