President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

How Tinubu Allegedly Sidelines Sanwo-Olu At Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway Inauguration In Lagos

…Notable Snub Raises Eyebrows Amid Political Ties

LAGOS, NIGERIA – At the official inauguration of the first completed segment of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway on Saturday, May 31, 2025, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appeared to sideline Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The event marked the unveiling of a 30-kilometre stretch – the first section of Phase 1 – of the ambitious 750-kilometre, six-lane highway designed to boost regional connectivity.

During the ceremony, President Tinubu shook hands with several attending governors, including Duoye Diri of Bayelsa, Monday Okpebholo of Edo, and Usman Ododo of Kogi. However, he noticeably bypassed Governor Sanwo-Olu, sparking widespread speculation.

This apparent snub was unexpected, considering the long-standing political mentorship Tinubu is widely believed to have over Sanwo-Olu.

The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway stands as a key project under the current administration, expected to stretch about 700 kilometres upon completion.

The highway will link Lagos to Calabar, Cross River State, while traversing several states including Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom – aiming to enhance trade, travel, and economic integration along Nigeria’s southern coast.
