At the time of his death, Pope Francis’s personal wealth was reported to be just $100 (90 Euros), and he owned no property, held no personal bank accounts, and had no investments to his name.
According to the British newspaper Mirror, Pope Francis was entitled to an annual salary of about 340,000 euros after being elected Supreme Pontiff in 2013.
However, due to his commitment as a member of the Society of Jesus, he had taken a vow of poverty and therefore never accepted that salary throughout his entire pontificate.
Rejecting the opulence of the luxurious papal apartments traditionally used by his predecessors, Pope Francis chose to live in Casa Santa Marta, a modest residence within the Vatican. This decision reflected his preference for a simpler, more humble lifestyle.
Throughout his papacy, Pope Francis consistently turned down many luxuries and maintained a modest daily routine.
While the Vatican covered all his essential expenses – including food, travel, security, and accommodation – he personally embraced simplicity in both living and leadership.
