Seego and MC Oluomo

How New Lagos NURTW Boss, Seego Gave MC Oluomo A “Soft Landing”

LAGOS, NIGERIA – Months after losing control, it has emerged that Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has been given a “soft landing” in Oshodi by the new Lagos State Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Comrade Mustapha Adekunle, aka Seego.

Seego has reportedly established firm control over the NURTW in Lagos, with all branch chairmen pledging their loyalty to him, even in Oshodi, which was formerly MC Oluomo’s stronghold.

According to sources, the individuals seen around MC Oluomo in Oshodi are there based on an understanding with Seego.

Insiders reveal that after pleas from mutual associates, Seego allowed MC Oluomo to retain a degree of relevance by permitting the new number one in Oshodi, Nayam (Sulaimon Yusuf), and others to maintain a visible connection with him.

This arrangement, while largely symbolic, allows MC Oluomo to save face after his defeat, despite it being a winner-takes-all victory for Seego.

Recall, MC Oluomo and Seego were once close allies who worked together to dominate Lagos’ transport union scene, with ties reaching high levels of government.

However, their friendship fell apart when MC Oluomo refused to uphold an agreement to make Seego his successor.

Instead, after four years in power, MC Oluomo sought to become the national president of the NURTW while retaining control of the Lagos chapter, a move that Seego strongly opposed.

Leveraging his stronger connections to government officials, Seego outmaneuvered MC Oluomo and took over as the chairman of the Lagos NURTW in February 2024 after a heated battle. This marked a significant victory for Seego, who had long felt sidelined by MC Oluomo’s ambitions.

Despite his defeat in Lagos, MC Oluomo is still eyeing the position of national president of the NURTW.

However, his ambitions have faced stiff opposition, particularly from the Joy Ajaero-led Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), which remains firmly supportive of the current national president, Ibikunle Baruwa.

This resistance has become a major roadblock in MC Oluomo’s quest to achieve national leadership within the union.
