ILISHAN-REMO, OGUN STATE, NIGERIA – Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has called on Nigerians – especially men, as leaders in their homes – to renew their commitment to transforming society by deepening their relationship with God and living out the character of Christ in their daily lives.
He made this charge on Thursday, August 7, 2025, while delivering a keynote address at the opening ceremony of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Western Nigeria Union Conference Adventist Men’s Organization (AMO) Convention, held at Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State.
The governor, represented by the Chairman of Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Evangelist Ifede Olalekan, reminded men that God has ordained them to be priests, protectors, and proclaimers of the gospel in their homes, churches, and communities.
He stressed that if men embrace their spiritual responsibilities, the narratives of the country will change for the better.
Speaking on the theme of the convention, “Mission to Neighbors – I Will Go”, Governor Abiodun described it as both relevant and urgent in today’s moral climate.
“The theme of this convention speaks directly to the core of Christian responsibility, especially in a time when moral darkness seems to grow bolder in our communities. God is raising men, not mere church-goers, but mission-minded, Spirit-led men to be light in their neighborhoods and salt in their cities”, he said-Remo
He pledged his administration’s commitment to partnering with religious and civic organizations to build a more just, peaceful, and morally upright society, adding that h

is government would continue to prioritize the welfare of the people and provide purposeful leadership that delivers the dividends of democracy.
In his goodwill message, the President of the Western Nigeria Union Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Pastor Ezekiel Atolagbe Adeleye, praised the current AMO leadership for organizing the convention after several years.
He expressed joy that men in the Union could now gather as brothers in the family of God.
Pastor Adeleye reminded participants that God’s mission begins at home. He emphasized that as heads of families and priests in their households, men must prioritize the salvation of their wives and children before extending their mission to neighbors.
In his welcome address, the Director of the Adventist Men’s Organization, Western Nigeria Union Conference, Elder Olusola Olayinka, thanked God for making the convention a reality despite Nigeria’s current socio-economic challenges.
He urged men in the Union to remain united and to practice unconditional love and service toward others, as exemplified by Jesus Christ. He noted that it would be difficult for the church to impact the world if it was not united.
Elder Olayinka commended the developmental strides of the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration and assured that the organization would continue to pray for the government.
The WNUC AMO Director revealed that the convention would devote quality time to pray for Ogun State and Nigeria as the nation grapples with socio-political, economic, and security challenges.
“In this convention, we are devoting quality time to pray for this highly prized State, Ogun, and Nigeria as a nation as we grapple with the socio-political, economic and security challenges of these last days”, Elder Olayinka assured.
