BY ABU-SATAR HAMED

FCT, ABUJA, NIGERIA -In a bold move to reposition technical education as a driver of economic transformation, the Federal Government of Nigeria has officially launched its Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) initiative.

The national launch ceremony took place in Abuja and was jointly officiated by the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, and the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Said Ahmad.

The TVET initiative is designed to empower Nigerian youth with industry-relevant skills, bridging the gap between education and employability. By aligning vocational training with current market demands, the programme aims to boost job creation, self-reliance, and national productivity.

According to statement from the Federal Ministry of Education, “TVET is more than a programme; it’s a gateway to securing your future and shaping Nigeria’s future.

“On behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education, Dr Alausa extends his sincere thanks and appreciation to our partners at NELFUND, NBTE, and all our stakeholders for your unwavering support of this urgently needed initiative.

“To all our attendees- especially the Honourable Minister of Youth, Honourable Minister of Labour, State Commissioners, Heads of FME Agencies, FME Directors, and School Principals – thank you for your presence and continued support.

“Let’s change the trajectory of this great country together!”

Registration for the Vocational Enterprise Institutes (VEIs) and Skills Training Centres (STCs) is now open!  To register go to TVET.education.gov.ng
