ABUJA, NIGERIA – The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismissed as false and misleading the viral publication by Instagram blogger “Mazitundeednut,” alleging that one Lt. Ahmed Yerima was attacked at the NNPC Junction in the Kubwa area of Abuja.
In a statement e-signed by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, anipr, mipra, and released on Monday, November 17, 2025, the Command clarified that the incident was grossly misrepresented.
According to the statement, at about 6:15 p.m. on November 16, 2025, a Police patrol team conducting a routine stop-and-search operation along the Kubwa Expressway intercepted an ash-coloured Toyota Camry with a concealed number plate and fully tinted windows.
“In line with standard operational procedure, officers approached the vehicle and politely requested the occupant’s identity and an explanation for the concealments”, the statement said.
However, the occupant reportedly refused to identify himself, made several calls, and rolled up his tinted windows, refusing further engagement.
“A few minutes later, three naval personnel arrived at the scene and courteously identified the occupant as their colleague. They also took photos and videos of the encounter before leaving.
“Upon this confirmation, the Police allowed the vehicle to proceed, and the patrol team continued its operations without incident”, the statement said.
The Command expressed shock over what it described as “maliciously crafted tales” and unfounded allegations of an assassination attempt circulating online.
FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye, Psc., urged residents and visitors to always cooperate with police officers performing their lawful duties.
He also cautioned against spreading fake and unverified news capable of causing fear and public apprehension.
The statement further encouraged FCT residents to promptly report any suspicious activity through the Command’s emergency lines: 08032003913, 08068587311, and the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) on 08107314192.
