FCAIB Commends Federal Government NELFUND For Disbursing ₦19.54 Million Education Loan To 91 Students

…Says Initiative Has Renewed Hope for a Brighter Academic Future

IBADAN, OYO STATE, NIGERIA – TUESDAY, OCTOBER 14, 2025 – The Federal College of Agriculture, Moor Plantation, Ibadan (FCAIB), under the visionary leadership of its Provost, Prof. Jonathan J. Atungwu, has expressed deep appreciation to the Federal Government and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) for the successful disbursement of ₦19,540,000.00 (Nineteen million, five hundred and forty thousand naira only) to 91 eligible students of the institution.

According to a press statement issued by Mrs. Oyekemi Wilson, Head of the College’s Public Relations Unit, the intervention has significantly alleviated the financial burden of many students and renewed their hope for a brighter academic future.

The institution had earlier held a sensitization and awareness programme on August 29, 2025, aimed at enlightening students about the objectives, benefits, and operational guidelines of the NELFUND scheme.

The programme forms part of the implementation of the Students Loans (Access to Higher Education) (Repeal and Re-enactment) Act, 2024, signed into law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

During the session, Barrister Elum explained the eligibility criteria, registration process, and repayment structure of the scheme, emphasizing the importance of transparency and accuracy in all applications.

He disclosed that out of 600 student applications uploaded to the NELFUND portal, 92 were successfully processed, with 91 approved, leading to the full disbursement of ₦19.54 million to qualified beneficiaries.

In his remarks, the immediate past Student Union President, Comrade Pelumi Folarin, commended the Federal Government and NELFUND for their commitment to expanding access to higher education for students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

He also lauded the College Management for its continued support and dedication to student welfare.

The well-attended event had in attendance members of the College Management, including the Deputy Provost (Administration), Deputy Provost (Academic), Registrar, Head of Bursary, Director of Audit, Deans of Schools, and the Dean of Student Affairs, among others – a reflection of the institution’s unwavering commitment to student success and academic excellence.

The College expressed optimism that the NELFUND initiative will be sustained and expanded to benefit more indigent students across tertiary institutions nationwide.Top of Form
