IBADAN – The Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde on Monday, November 2, 2020 visited the Police headquarters of the Oyo State in what observers of the scene believed to be a reconciliatory visit.
According to a source, the Oyo state Police Command has not been happy with the state government, hence the reconciliatory meeting.
It was scooped that ex-Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, who is now a Deputy Inspector General of Police incharge of South West, DIG Leye Oyebade and ex-CPs in Makinde’s cabinet facilitated the reconciliation visit.
Recall, owing to what Governor Makinde saw as an unprofessional handling of the #EndSARS protest, he had asked the police to stay back and allow men of the joint security task force codenamed, “Operation Burst”, to take charge.
Against this backdrop, StarTrend Int’l gathered, the leadership of the Oyo Police Command was not happy with the handling of the situation by the governor while accusing him of keeping mum when their men were killed and burnt to death.
According to an impeccable source, “The governor deliberately and openly rejected policemen in the state by openly showing it through his speech and body language.
“The governor told us openly to step down while constantly calling on “Operation Burst” which are minute in strength to take up security of the state. With this utterances, he also encouraged the hoodlums against the police.”
Governor Makinde at the visit however pledged to compensate the families of the slained police officers, saying, “this is just as I pledged compensation for slain officers.”
StarTrend Int’l recalls that more than 4 policemen were killed in Ojoo and Iwo road area of Ibadan, following the attack on police facilities by hoodlums during the #EndSARS protests in the state.
