Nigeria's Ex-Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke

Ex-Husband Requests Diezani Alison-Madueke To Stop Using His Name

Rear Admiral Alison Amaechina Madueke (Rtd.)

LAGOS, NIGERIA – Rear Admiral Alison Amaechina Madueke, the former husband of ex-Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke, has revealed that he ceased living with her in 2015 and is now urging her to stop using his surname.

In a petition filed with the Lagos High Court (Suit No LD/15144HD/2024), Madueke requested an injunction to compel Diezani to revert to her pre-marital surname, Agama, and cease using his name, which he claims has caused him embarrassment.

The petition highlights that despite their marriage being legally dissolved in April 2022, Diezani continues to use Madueke’s first name and surname.

This has allegedly led to misconceptions about their relationship status and has tarnished Madueke’s reputation, especially given Diezani’s ongoing legal issues involving allegations of corruption and financial misconduct.

Madueke’s solicitors have formally requested Diezani to discontinue the use of his name, emphasizing that the continued association is detrimental to his legal and financial standing.

The petition underscores the need for clarity and separation following the dissolution of their marriage, citing ongoing legal implications faced by Diezani in Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

The court petition aims to safeguard Madueke from further reputational damage and asserts his right to dissociate himself from Diezani’s public persona.
