Worried by the lockdown of Tai Solarin College of Education (TASCE), Ijagun, Ogun State, the National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) has charged the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun to see to the reopening of the institution to avoid further decadence.
Recall, the institution has been under lock and key for over six months over unpaid 48 months salaries and over 14 months salary arrears.
The Association spoke on Monday July 8, 2019 through its newly elected National President, Comrade Ogunrombi Oluwagbemileke at a Press Conference that took place in Abeokuta, the State capital.
Oluwagbemileke who expressed the belief that Abiodun’s administration would rejuvenate the glory of the State, lamented that the shutdown of activities on the campus could affect students academic performance.
He aid: “Though, we believe that the Governor has come to restore the glory of the State, we are using this medium to implore him to see to the reopening of Tai Solarin College of Education that has been under lock and key for some months now.”
Speaking on the Association’s just concluded election which was held over the weekend, the President of NAOSS stressed that democracy must thrive, not only in the State, but also in the country at large, saying, “Credible electoral process is needed as a manure to grow the tree of democracy.’
Gbemileke also expressed displeasure over the trickle down educational sector in the State and charged the Governor to pay strict attention to the sector by allocating adequate funds in accordance to the United Nations standard.
He charged the state government to set up a vocational training, scholarship and bursary board in the state which according to him would directly equip the State while having the effects of governance on students in the state.
The NAOSS President continue, “The government should ensure that the board is saddled with the responsibility of organising vocational programmes for Ogun State students at all level in preparing them for the future ahead and also seek to payment of bursaries and award of scholarship to students on merit “.
