LAGOS, NIGERIA – The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has officially acknowledged the arrest of the prominent cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, famously known as Bobrisky.
The apprehension took place in Lagos during the night of Wednesday, April 3, 2024, amid a string of controversies encircling the social media personality in recent times.
Bobrisky’s detention at the Lagos Command of the EFCC stems from accusations concerning the misuse of the Nigerian currency, particularly involving the spraying and defacement of naira notes.
Dele Oyewale, the spokesperson for the EFCC, confirmed the arrest on Thursday, April 4, 2024, shedding light on the reasons behind Bobrisky’s apprehension. Oyewale outlined the charges against Bobrisky, which include allegations of naira abuse, spraying, and defacement of currency notes, among others.
He underscored the EFCC’s earnest commitment to upholding the integrity of the Nigerian currency, asserting, “We are resolute in restoring the dignity of the naira.”
While investigations are ongoing, Oyewale affirmed that Bobrisky will be presented before the court to address the charges brought against him.
