Dr. Temidayo Oniosun: Pioneering Space Scientist Fueling Africa’s Tech Future

Dr. Temidayo Oniosun, founder, builder, visionary Africa’s tech future stands at the forefront of Africa’s growing presence in the global space and technology ecosystem.

A space scientist, serial entrepreneur, and investor, he is widely regarded as one of the continent’s most influential voices in frontier innovation.

Dr. Oniosun is the Founder and Managing Director of Space in Africa, the continent’s leading market intelligence and consulting firm in the satellite and space industry.

He also leads Trappist Labs, a research and development company advancing frontier technologies for Africa.

Through Trappist Labs, he recently launched two climate-focused ventures – Climate in Africa and Miri – which are already working with institutions such as Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) to drive environmental monitoring and policy impact.

A respected global thought leader, Temidayo is a nonresident senior fellow at the Atlantic Council’s Africa Center, where he guides the African space program.

He is a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council on Space Technologies and a research affiliate at the MIT Media Lab.

He made history as the first African to be named a Karman Fellow in 2020 and was also listed in Forbes Africa’s 30 Under 30 in 2021. His work has been featured by CNN, BBC, CNBC, Al Jazeera, CGTN, Forbes Africa, and Voice of America.

As an angel investor, Dr. Oniosun has funded over 40 startups across Africa, covering sectors like climate tech, data, logistics, and fintech. His investments and mentorship continue to shape Africa’s next generation of innovators and founders.

Temidayo holds a B.Tech in Meteorology from the Federal University of Technology Akure, a Master’s in Satellite Applications from the University of Strathclyde (UK), and a PhD from the University of Delaware (USA).

He uses this academic foundation to bridge research and real-world innovation, scaling solutions from idea to impact across African economies.

Raised in Okaka, Oyo State, Temidayo has never lost touch with his roots. He personally funded the establishment of an ICT hub in his hometown, sponsors students annually through JAMB, and actively mentors young Africans.

Through his advocacy, he champions youth-led innovation, calling for increased investment in science, leadership, and technology education to secure Africa’s future.
