LAGOS, NIGERIA – The Management of Dangote Industries Limited (DIL) has clarified that the truck involved in the recent accident in Enugu State does not belong to the Dangote Group.
According to DIL, investigations revealed that the vehicle in question is owned by Visco Investment Global Limited, a third-party operator.
The company disclosed it is actively engaging with the relevant agencies to determine why the truck was carrying the Dangote logo despite not being part of its fleet.
Moving forward, the Group pledged tighter scrutiny against unauthorised use of its brand identity.
DIL stressed that while it is not its policy to comment on individual cases, it was compelled to respond due to the spread of misinformation. It urged the public and media to refrain from circulating unverified claims, warning against attempts to exploit tragedies for malicious or financial gain.
“The Dangote Group remains steadfast in upholding the highest standards of corporate responsibility, safety, and integrity in all our operations,” the company said, pledging full cooperation with relevant authorities investigating the incident.
In a related development, DIL reiterated its warning to truck operators against the unauthorised use of its logo on their trucks, stressing that the practice has caused serious embarrassment to the brand.
The company noted with concern that some vehicles bearing its logo, despite no affiliation, have been involved in accidents wrongly linked to the Dangote fleet.
It vowed to intensify monitoring with law enforcement agencies and pursue legal action against offenders.
Dangote expressed alarm at the growing misinformation surrounding its operations, particularly the recurring trend of attributing accidents to its trucks without verification. The Group urged the public and media to fact-check before dissemination.
The Dangote Group operates one of the largest commercial fleets in Africa, with over 12,000 trucks in Nigeria, including more than 3,000 managed by third-party contractors.
On a daily basis, over 6,000 vehicles are deployed in logistics operations, supporting more than 36,000 direct and indirect jobs.
The company further explained that it works closely with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other regulatory bodies to monitor, standardise, and improve operational practices. Continuous internal audits are also conducted to ensure compliance and strengthen safety in line with global best practices.
