Dangote Cement Trains Commercial Motorcyclists on Blind Spots In Ember Month Safety Campaign (+photos)

ILARO-YEWA, OGUN STATE, NIGERIA – Thursday, December 4, 2025: Dangote Cement, Ibese Plant, has reaffirmed its dedication to the safety of its host communities by organizing a comprehensive training for commercial motorcyclists on blind-spot awareness and general road safety, particularly during the Ember Months.

The sensitization programme, held on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at the New Motor Park in Ilaro-Yewa, Ogun State, drew hundreds of commercial motorcyclists from Ilaro and neighbouring towns.

In her keynote address titled, “Speed Is Sweet, But E Dey Kill: Slow Down, Give Space, Move with Care”, the Group Head of Pan-Nigeria/African Transport, Health and Safety at Dangote, Ms. Ebere Okonkwo, highlighted over speeding, impatience and miscalculations as leading causes of avoidable road accidents.

She urged riders to adopt safer riding habits and strictly obey traffic regulations, especially in the final twenty-seven days of the year when traffic volume increases.

The Head of Cement Transport and Safety at the Ibese Plant, Mr. Peter Abuad, conducted a practical demonstration on identifying and avoiding truck blind spots.

He outlined four danger zone – directly in front of the truck, both sides and the rear – warning riders to steer clear of these areas during turns, lane changes or when giving right-of-way.

In his own remarks, representative of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) at the event, Mr. Suleiman Oluwadunmiye, urged participants to become safety ambassadors, noting that many accidents are preventable when riders remain alert and follow basic safety rules.

Officials from the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) and the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO), Mr. Solomon Salako and Mr. Obafemi Matemilola, respective commended Dangote Cement for its sustained investment in public safety initiatives aimed at improving road behaviour across the state.

Two participants, Mr. Rasheed Opeyemi and Mr. Kareem Kolade, expressed gratitude to Dangote Cement, describing the training as timely and lifesaving.

They urged fellow riders to avoid blind spots, ride responsibly and adhere to traffic signs.

Organisers of the event later distributed safety kits to commercial motorcyclist unions in attendance – which further demonstrated Dangote Cement’s ongoing commitment to reducing road accidents and promoting safer transportation in Ogun State and across Nigeria.
