OBAFEMI-OWODE: As a response to COVID-19 pandemic, and in line with the directives of the National Leadership of Organized Labour, in Nigeria, for the formation of Labour-Civil Society situation Room in the State, Obafemi Owode Local Government Chapter, has been inaugurated at the LG Secretariat, Owode.
According to a press release e-signed and made available to StarTrend Int’l magazine & www.startrendinternational.com by Fagbire Oluwarotimi, Higher Asst..Info Officer, Obafemi Owode LG.,the Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, Obafemi Owode Local Government Chapter, Comrade.Oluwunmi Folarin, while speaking at the Inauguration ceremony, enumerated the objectives of the Committee as follows; to sensitize workers and Citizens on the reality, prevention and containment measures, against COVID-19; to embark on advocacy and social dialogue with Government and private sector employers; to promote public health and employment, cum income protection for workers.
Others are to maintain survailance on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, on the workforce and adopt appropriate positions; to support workers who are in the frontline of the COVID-19 pandemic with information safety kits; to maintain a feedback relationship between workers, organizations, government and employers, in the private sector; to protect jobs, wages and means of livelihood of Nigerians; to support effective control and protective measures, against further spread and fatalities of the Corona Virus disease and, to serve as well as liase and advice Government, on the strategy of moving forward.
The State Chairman of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, Comrade Olatunji Ayuba, who was present at the inauguration, advised the Committee to sensitize the masses that, despite stepping down the lockdown, people should not resist the use of face masks, promising additional 100 pieces of face masks to support the Committee.
The Transition Committe Chairman of Obafemi Owode Local Government, Hon.Fatai Mustapha, later received the Committee members in his office, with the promise of the LG logistic support, in terms of moral & materials, such as 200 pieces of face masks, sanitizers, as well as vehincles and monetary support.
The names of the Committee members were, as follows; Comrade.Oluwunmi Folarin, Nigeria Labour Congress Chairman, Obafemi Owode Local Government, Chapter, Comm.Ogunbanwo J.A. representing Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), Comm.Funmilayo Sunmonu, represeting National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, (NANNM),
Others were; Comm. Alaka Abiodun of National Youth Council of Nigeria, Comm. Fagbire Oluwarotimi, representing Department of Information, Education & Sports,.one representative of DSS Office, as well as Comm.Nosiru Wasiu, Assistant Secretary, Obafemi Owode Chapter of Nigeria Labour Congress.
