ILARO-YEWA, OGUN STATE, NIGERIA – A strong appeal has been made to Nigerian politicians to urgently address the nation’s deteriorating socio-economic condition in order to prevent its complete collapse.

The plea came from the Bishop of Yewa Diocese of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Rt. Rev’d Ayo Adeniyi, during a special thanksgiving service marking the 70th birthday of Chief Wesley Hassan Iyanda Akinbode, the Aare Bobagunwa of Ijounland. The event took place on Friday, November 15, 2024, at the Cathedral of Grace, Gbogidi Ilaro Circuit.

During his address, Rt. Rev’d Adeniyi posed a rhetorical question about Nigeria’s current state of crisis, asking how the nation had descended into such a perilous situation.

He lamented the harsh reality in which many Nigerians are now reduced to begging just to survive and secure their daily bread. His comments highlighted the severity of the nation’s socio-economic struggles and the urgent need for action.

In light of these challenges, Rt. Rev’d Adeniyi called on patriotic Nigerians, both leaders and citizens, to come together and help restore the country to its former glory.

He emphasized that only through collective effort and a renewed commitment to national unity can Nigeria hope to overcome its present difficulties and regain prosperity.

The Bishop also urged Nigerians to turn to God in prayer, seeking His forgiveness and divine intervention for the nation. He called for a sincere return to faith and a deep, passionate plea for the restoration of better times.

According to Rt. Rev’d Adeniyi, it is essential for the people of Nigeria to recognize their past mistakes, repent for the bad practices that have contributed to the current crisis, and work toward healing the nation.

Rt. Rev’d Adeniyi reminded Nigerians to be thankful for God’s mercy and the enduring unity that continues to hold the country together, despite its many challenges.

He encouraged everyone to express gratitude for the divine kindness that has kept Nigeria as one entity, even in the face of adversity.
