…Sends Heartfelt Condolence To Oyagbola Family

LAGOS, NIGERIA – The Bobagunwa of Ilaro-Yewa, Ogun State, Alhaji (Chief) Waidi Haruna (Wadoye), has extended his deepest condolences to the family of Chief (Mrs.) Ebun Akinola Oyagbola, the Iyalode of Yewaland and former Minister of National Planning.
Alhaji Waidi Haruna, who also serves as the Chairman and Chief Executive of Wadoye Express Ltd, described Chief Oyagbola’s passing as a painful and significant loss – not only to Yewaland and Ogun State, but to Nigeria as a whole.
Chief Oyagbola, a pioneering politician and diplomat, died on Friday, February 28, 2025, at the age of 94. She made history as Nigeria’s first female minister of cabinet rank under the Shagari Administration and later served as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Mexico, with oversight of diplomatic relations with Panama, Costa Rica, and Guatemala.
In a statement e-signed by Alhaji Waidi Haruna and shared with StarTrend Int’l magazine and online platforms, the logistics and freight forwarding expert praised Chief Oyagbola’s legacy.
He described her as an Amazon who paved an enviable path for African women in their quest for gender equality and active participation in politics.
Wadoye lauded Chief Oyagbola’s immense contributions to the socioeconomic development of Yewaland. He noted that she was a frontline politician and an astute diplomat who left an indelible mark on the Second Republic’s political landscape.
While expressing his deepest sympathies, Wadoye extended prayers for strength and comfort to Chief Oyagbola’s immediate family, the entire Akinola family of Igan Alade in Yewa North Local Government, and the people of Yewaland, Ogun State, and Nigeria as a whole.
Alhaji Waidi Haruna (Wadoye) prayed for the peaceful repose of Chief Oyagbola’s soul and for her family to find the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss.
