ILARO-YEWA, OGUN STATE, NIGERIA – The Secretary to the Yewa South Local Government, Comrade Abduljabar Ayelagbe, has urged students of the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro-Yewa, Ogun State, to remain committed to their academic pursuits.
He emphasized the need for self-improvement through focus on studies and the cultivation of positive personal qualities and relevant skills, which, he said, would help them earn the trust of older generations in handling future responsibilities.
Ayelagbe made this call on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, while serving as one of the panelists at the 9th Legislative Summit organized by the Student Representative Council (SRC) of the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro.
The event, which took place at the Raheem Oloyo Conference Centre, brought together students and leaders to discuss leadership and youth empowerment.
Speaking on the summit’s theme, “Leadership Beyond Borders: Empowering Student Leaders”, Ayelagbe encouraged the students to take deliberate actions that would shape a better future for themselves.
He said, “Do something today that your future self will thank you for.” This, he noted, summed up the essence of his message to the students.
Highlighting the abundance of opportunities available in business, politics, and other sectors for young and resourceful individuals, Ayelagbe reiterated his earlier call for students to equip themselves with values and skills that foster trust.
He advised them to choose their circle wisely, stating, “Surround yourselves with people who can uplift you, as good company makes the journey seem shorter.”
Comrade Ayelagbe praised the current administrations at both the federal and Ogun State levels for entrusting several young Nigerians with sensitive political and government positions.
According to him, this trend represents a “breath of fresh air” and reflects growing confidence in the capabilities of the youth.
The summit concluded with the presentation of an Award of Honour to Comrade Abduljabar Ayelagbe in recognition of his consistent support to the student constituency and his active engagement in youth development initiatives.
