AWUJALE SELECTION: GOVERNOR ABIODUN RESPONDS TO MISLEADING REPORTS

ABEOKUTA, OGUN STATE, NIGERIA – Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, has debunked circulating reports alleging a confrontation between him and the Council of Afobajes over the Awujale selection process, describing the claims as false and misleading.

According to official sources, the Governor held a respectful and consultative meeting with the Council of Afobajes, in line with similar engagements he had previously conducted with the Olori Ebis, which were once polarized but were later harmonised through dialogue.

Such earlier interventions, it was recalled, also led to the withdrawal of a pending litigation by one of the kingmakers.

In a statement e-signed and made available to the media by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, the discussions were said to have centred on issues of mutual concern, aimed at ensuring progress and stability in traditional affairs within Ijebuland.

The statement categorically dismissed rumours that Governor Abiodun issued threats or ultimatums during the meeting.

“Statements attributed to him, including ‘No Kuye, No Awujale,’ are entirely fabricated and have no connection whatsoever to the Governor or his administration. No Afobaje can attest to such an occurrence, as it never happened. This is yet another fabrication by mischief makers”, the statement read.

It further emphasised that Governor Abiodun remains steadfast in his commitment to due process, respect for the autonomy of traditional institutions, and the promotion of a fair and transparent process in the selection of a new Awujale of Ijebu.

The statement added that the administration continued to prioritise dialogue, harmony, and the preservation of cultural values, noting that the Governor has consistently demonstrated the high regard in which he holds the revered Awujale throne.

Members of the public, traditional stakeholders, and the media were therefore urged to disregard the unfounded insinuations and rely only on verified information from official sources.
