LAGOS, NIGERIA – The governments of Lagos and Ogun States have once again commiserated with the families of Lateef Ayodele and Cina Gami, the two young men who tragically lost their lives in the road accident involving Anthony Joshua on December 29, 2025.
In a joint statement e-signed by Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser on Information to the Ogun State Government, and Gbenga Omo, Lagos State Commissioner for Information, the governments expressed deep sorrow over the incident.
“We pray The Almighty grants the repose of their souls and gives their families and loved ones the fortitude to bear this very sad and painful loss”, the statement read.
Anthony Joshua was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday, December 31, 2025.
Although emotionally shaken and deeply heartbroken over the death of his two close friends, he was declared medically stable to continue his recovery at home.
Later that afternoon, Joshua and his mother visited a funeral home in Lagos to pay their last respects to the deceased, as preparations were underway for the repatriation of their remains scheduled for the same evening.
The Governors of Ogun and Lagos States, Dapo Abiodun and Babajide Sanwo-Olu, extended their gratitude to the public for the outpouring of support, sympathy, and prayers during this difficult period.
They also acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the fatherly support rendered throughout the process.
“We equally appreciate the doctors and medical personnel at Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, Lagos, whose dedication, professionalism, and quality care provided comfort to both Anthony and the injured survivors”, the statement added.
Anthony Joshua is expected to continue his recuperation privately as mourning and support efforts continue for the affected families.
