Amazing Reason Naira Marley Was Arrested By EFCC

Following the arrest of popular singer, Afeez Fashola better known as Naira Marley. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the arrest and revealed why he was arrested.

Naira Marley, known for his single ‘Issa Goal,’ recently came under fire by renowned rapper, Ruggedman, for promoting Internet fraud in his music.

The acting EFCC spokesperson, Mr Tony Orilade said, “Yes, he is with us. He’s not the only person; he had some other persons also arrested alongside (him).

“They were arrested in relation to advance fee fraud — Internet-related cases and all of that. Give me a little time and I will get you the details.”

However, a video featuring Ruggedman has gone viral this week in which the rapper called out Naira Marley for advocating Internet fraud.

The artiste noted that the promotion of such cyber crimes impacted negatively on Nigerians abroad.

Naira Marley, whose recent song is titled ‘Am I A Yahoo Boy,’ responded by mocking Ruggedman in an Instagram video and defended his artistic choices.

Recall that The EFCC last year launched Operation Cyber Storm which sought to curb the activities of Internet fraudsters.

Over 150 suspects have been reportedly arrested across the country.

Last month, Naira Marley took to Instagram to defend internet fraudsters popularly known as ‘Yahoo-Yahoo’, saying it is not a crime.

In the defense of the fraudsters, the music artiste stated that Yahoo-Yahoo is not a crime because slave trade justifies it.

He wrote: “If u know about slavery u go know say yahoo no b crime.

“You better sit down and pray for Yahoo Boys. If them stop yahoo, the money would not pass you guys”, he said.

Marley added: “The money will go like this, from Obasanjo to Tinubu, from Tinubu to Mr Japa, you think me I need Yahoo? I make money from my music.”

However, Naira Marley during a recent Instagram live session, urged Nigerians to pray for Internet fraudsters (Yahoo Boys), saying they are the reason money circulates to the common man.

He said: “All you guys, all the money in your pockets, all the money you spend, you think it’s the government that is making the money go round?”

The video has since stirred reactions from Nigerians who described Marley as a disgrace and bad example to young Nigerians.

A few Nigerians have supported Marley, saying that Yahoo Boys are the reason some Nigerians can eat and survive.

Police PRO, Dolapo Badmus has also thrown a shade at Naira Marley as news circulates that the singer has been arrested by EFCC on his birthday.

Badmus, who shows a strong stance against internet fraudsters aka Yahoo Boys, took to her Instagram page to mock the Yahoo boys advocate.

She wrote: The only authentic NAIRA I know is Nigeria’s legal tender. Any other naira attached to something is a counterfeit!
