…Acknowledges President Tinubu, Lagos State Governor Sanwo-Olu, Oba Akiolu, Others

LAGOS, NIGERIA – Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle Adio, popularly known as Sego, has been inaugurated as the substantive Chairman of the Lagos State Council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
The event, held on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at the union’s secretariat in Oko Oba, Agege, Lagos, marked a new chapter for the union after months of leadership transition. Sego had previously served as the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee following the dissolution of the council’s executive committee.
During his acceptance speech, Sego emphasized the need for unity among union members. Reflecting on the past crisis that disrupted the union, he urged members to prioritize peace.
“If you have sense to win war, you must have sense for peace,” he stated, praying for divine help to maintain harmony within the union.
Expressing appreciation, Sego thanked key individuals and leaders who supported his journey to the leadership role. Among those acknowledged were President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Oba of Lagos, HRM Rilwan Akiolu, and several others.
“I thank God that made me sit here today. I thank my late parents and everyone who made this possible,” Sego remarked, extending his gratitude to union members and state officials.
The event also featured a speech by the newly elected National President of NURTW, Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo.
Speaking through Chief Anthony Ewa, Vice President, South East, Oluomo urged members to avoid violence and work towards advancing the union.
“It is our duty to lead the union to a higher level,” he said, while paying homage to the founding fathers of NURTW.
Representing the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transport, Hon. Sola Giwa, and Engineer Ojoowuro Olasunkanmi congratulated Sego on his new role and reiterated the government’s reliance on NURTW to achieve its transportation goals.
“You will help us achieve our agenda on transportation in Lagos State. NURTW is very important in our plans to make Lagos a smart city,” Olasunkanmi said.
The ceremony also included the inauguration of the union’s Deputy Chairman, trustees, ex-officio members, and other executives.
The event was attended by traditional rulers, union members, and dignitaries, including the Deputy National President, North Central of NURTW, Alhaji Musa Garba.
The day concluded with a renewed commitment to peace, progress, and collaboration, setting the tone for Sego’s tenure as Chairman of Lagos NURTW.
