Access Holdings CEO Herbert Wigwe, Wife, Son Among Victims Of US Helicopter Crash

In a tragic incident, Access Holdings Group CEO Herbert Wigwe, his wife, son, and others lost their lives in a helicopter crash on the evening of Friday, February 8, 2024, near the border city between Nevada and California.

The family had departed Lagos State, Nigeria, on Wednesday, February 6, 2024, aiming to attend Super Bowl 58 in Las Vegas on Sunday, February 11, 2024, at Allegiant Stadium.

However, their journey came to a devastating end when the helicopter en route to Las Vegas crashed near Nipton on the edge of the Mojave Desert.

The accident not only claimed the lives of Herbert Wigwe, his wife, and son but also that of another passenger, Bimbo Ogunbanjo, the son of late businessman, Chris Ogunbanjo.

US officials have confirmed the crash and are conducting investigations to determine its cause.

Access Corporation, owners of Access Bank Plc, issued an email to stakeholders on Sunday, February 11, 2024, titled “IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT,” acknowledging the crash and stating their cooperation with US authorities for updates.

Herbert Wigwe, also the founder of Wigwe University, had recently mourned the loss of Mr. Abdul Imoyo, the Head of Corporate and Media Relations at Access Holdings. Wigwe was physically present at both the Service of Songs and Burial Service for the staff.
