ABEOKUTA, OGUN STATE, NIGERIA – Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family of the late former Military Administrator of the defunct Western Region, Major-General Adeyinka Adebayo, over the passing of the family matriarch, Chief (Mrs.) Modupe Adebayo.

The Governor noted that Chief (Mrs.) Adebayo, who passed away on the eighth anniversary of her husband’s demise, on Saturday, March 8, 2025, was a remarkable woman known for her substance and exceptional brilliance.

Chief (Mrs.) Adebayo, according to Governor Abiodun, stood firmly by her husband throughout the challenging military years, offering steadfast support that contributed to his outstanding achievements in various roles, including Military Administrator of the Western Region, Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy, and Chief of Army Staff.

In a condolence message released on Sunday, March 9, 2025, Governor Abiodun acknowledged Chief (Mrs.) Adebayo’s commitment to nation-building, particularly her efforts toward the development of Ekiti State following the transition to civil rule in 1999.

He said that her dedication and hard-work played a significant role in the political landscape that saw her son, Otunba Niyi Adebayo, emerged as the first democratically elected Governor of Ekiti State in 1999.

Governor Abiodun said: “The passing of Chief (Mrs.) Modupe Adebayo at 85, though a sad event, is one event over which we cannot but express gratitude to Almighty God for a life extremely well lived.

“Mama Modupe Adebayo, wife of an extremely distinguished Army Chief and Military Administrator of the defunct Western Region and mother of the first civilian governor of Ekiti State, lived a life that was a study in excellence.

“She was a woman of great intellect and deep faith in God who helped her husband navigated complex and challenging epochs in Nigerian history.

“A patriot of no mean repute, Mama also made positive contributions to our democratic experience, offering wise counsel that helped stabilise Ekiti State and the country at large.”

Governor Abiodun prayed that Almighty God will grant Mama Modupe Adebayo eternal rest in His bosom.
