ILARO-YEWA, OGUN STATE, NIGERIA – Governor of Ogun State Prince Dapo Abiodun, has acknowledged the historical neglect of the Ogun West Senatorial District by previous administrations.
Speaking during the Grand Finale of the 2024 Oronna Ilaro Festival at the Asade Agunle Pavilion in Ilaro-Yewa, Abiodun reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to changing the narrative.
Abiodun emphasized that Ogun West, despite being the state’s largest non-oil revenue earner and its food basket, had long been overlooked.
He recounted his early pledge to the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland to not only begin but also complete and commission critical projects in the zone.
Key projects completed in the district include: reconstruction of the Ilaro-Owode Road, a crucial artery now reduces travel time from hours to minutes, linking several local government areas and Atan-Lusada-Agbara Dual Carriageway that one lane completed, with plans underway to finish the second lane.
Also Abiodun noted the importance of Ogun West as home to the Agbara Industrial Estate with over 500 industries, vast limestone deposits, and Nigeria’s largest cement factory.
The governor commended leaders in the region for their developmental efforts, particularly Oba (Dr.) Kehinde Olugbenle, the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland for his advocacy and passion for Yewaland developmental efforts.
He praised Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, for his impactful projects that have significantly improved living conditions of the area.
Abiodun also called on the people to collaborate with the government in driving further development, emphasizing that such efforts require collective responsibility.
Deputy Senate President Senator Barau Jubril, in his goodwill message, lauded the festival as a platform for cultural preservation and a tool for development.
He highlighted its potential to boost education, infrastructure, health, and even foreign exchange earnings.
Senator Iyabo Anisulowo, representing the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, stressed that the festival celebrates heritage while fostering unity and progress.
Oba Kehinde Olugbenle expressed gratitude to Governor Abiodun for fulfilling his promises to Ogun West.
He appealed for the timely commissioning of the housing estate in Ilaro, urging the administration to continue its focus on equitable development across the state.
