COVID’19: Yewa South LG Inaugurates Palliative Committee, Sets To Distribute Foods To Indigents

ILARO-YEWA: The Yewa South Local Government of Ogun State has inaugurated a seventeen (17) man non-partisan committee that would monitor the distribution of foods and other palliative items that would be given to the people of the local government area as a result of the two weeks stay at home ordered by the Federal Government to curb the spread of coronavirus in the country.

Monitoring the inauguration, the State Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Hon. Olaolu Olabimtan who pointed out that the distribution of food items would start from the indigents across the State and the Local Government, appreciated the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for his kind gesture.

According to him, “The distribution of the food items and other palliative materials is going to commence in the next few days and that is why this committee was inaugurated. And we need to plan about the logistics, about how to get it here, about how to get it to very nooks and crannies.

“We are to make sure that the items get to everybody especially the poorest of the poor and we are going to work on that. There are some people that if they don’t go out in a day they wouldn’t be able to feed. There are some people who have absolutely no income – those are the major focus for now.

“By the way, this committee is non-partisan, it’s fully inclusive, community leaders, Baales, people across party and religious line, and everybody is represented in the committee. Coronavirus does not know party, gender and tribe; so it concern everybody”.

The Commissioner advised citizen of the council area and its environ to do the right thing by following all the instructions given to them by the government.

“My advice is for the people to do the right things, follow all the instructions. You have been asked to stay at home, please stay at home. Maintain social distances, wash your hands thoroughly and often, drink water always, use sanitizers and follow all the government and medical instructions.”

The Transition Chairman of the council who is also the Chairman of the inaugurated palliative committee, Alhaji Rahmon Olabode Fagbennro, commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for his kindness, stating that the palliative measure would go a long way at relieving the people during the 14days stay at home order.

Alhaji Fagbennro said that the committee would do all its best at making sure that the food items get to the targeted audience without any discrimination or favour, while advising that citizen of the council and other areas should adhere to the advice of the government of not going to any social party or market place for now.

His words, “The committee is to ensure that food items and other palliative materials get to the appropriate places and the target audience that is why we have members of CDC and CDA in the committee.

“Also members of religious organization and market leaders were included in the committee. I want to assure you that the items will get to the appropriate places”, Alhaji Fagbenro posited.

On her own, a member of the state House of Assembly who is also a member of the committee, Hon. (Mrs.) Latifat Bola Ajayi, while appreciating the Governor for the laudable idea said, “First of all, I have to thank His Excellency for the laudable idea. The gesture will give our people relief, especially the needy of the pains to stay indoor for two weeks. I assure that as a committee member the items will get to the nooks and crannies of the local government.

“We need to give to the poorest of the poor. So, we will do the job diligently as expected by the Governor. On my own, I have done lots for my people in my constituency. I have distributed sanitizers and some other items to people especially at the market place”.

In their separate contributions, the Chief Imam of Ilaro, Alhaji Tajudeen Adewunmi, the Iyaloja of Ilaro, Alhaja Risikat Bola Idowu, Yewa South CAN Chairman, Sup. Evan. Samuel Padoni, and Zonal CDC Chairman, Yewa South, Mr. Olaewe Kayode promised to give their best towards ensuring that the aims and objects of the committee is achieved.
